Yeti builds mountain bikes for hardcore riders who want the best riding mountain bikes on the planet. They build their entire lineup out of two grades of carbon fiber frames, the Carbon and Turq series of frames, and all of their bikes are known as some of the smoothest, silkiest and fastest bikes on the downhill.
Not only that, but they also climb amazingly well thanks to the amazing Switch Infinity Suspension that has been the darling of mountain bike writers since its release in Want a hand picking? Send us an email and we'd be stoked to help.
This bike is described by Yeti as a "genre killing XC bike. Notably, not everyone sees it that way, even among those who also appreciate what Yeti is doing. In what can only be described as a glowing review in BicyclingMatt Phillips praised the bike roundly but also described it as "the closest thing to a cross-country bike that Yeti makes.
As Phillips noted, the SB has the lightest frame and shortest travel among all Yeti options. It has a little bit of a gravity tilt in its design, though, leading the architecture away from what would be considered a standard XC approach.
Phillips highlighted the bike's degree head angle combined with a 44 mm offset forklonger-than-typical chainstay, and long front center. When you get the total model, it comes with a dropper post, broad bar, and thick tires built for sustained durability over rough terrain.
Rather than the SB being a cross-country bike for someone looking for a traditional approach, Phillips suggested it should be considered a very speedy trail bike. As Felton explained, the SB is a new model that was a smart move by Yeti because it effectively filled a gap it had in its catalog after the manufacturer terminated the ASR-c. The key ways that the bikemaker intended to improve the bike in the SB form are that the steering is a bit easier to achieve; the wheelbase and cockpit are extended a bit with a new evolution of the geometry; the Switch Infinity is utilized which is a more sophisticated rear-suspension architecture ; and the frame is noticeably stiffened.
Finally, while The details and specifications for an SB Beti are identical to those for the standard SB in almost every way. The only differences are that they have a WTB Deva saddle and shorter cranks, along with specifically chosen graphics and paint; and the tuning of the shocks is for a lighter weight. The ability of this bike to climb steep and challenging terrain was immediately noticeable to those on the Bike Magazine test crew.
No matter the shock, the inch wheels were able to make their way easily over rocky trails. While the model was so capable of ascending terrain, it also was able to take on technically intense downhill runs, thanks to a These Yetis climb amazingly well for 5 inch travel full suspension mountain bikes and absolutley crush when you point downhill.
Whether you want a The Yeti SB5 received strong reviews when it was released. A great example was the assessment of Chad Davis of Crankjoy. Davis noted that he was eagerly anticipating the bike.FREE U.
The biggest change moving forward is that every model will have two different carbon level frame options: The TURQ series and the Carbon series. TURQ series frames are constructed from the highest quality of carbon fiber available and save anywhere from grams when compared to their Carbon Series frames. Carbon series frames utilize less high modulus carbon which Yeti is able to offer at a more affordable price point than the TURQ series, only sacrificing a little bit of weight and still achieving the award winning quality that Yeti is known for.
Yeti puts their frames through vigorous amounts of testing and there were no exceptions for the models. Yeti has the luxury to test each model with current EWS World Champion Richie Rude, their own in-house testing team, as well as brand ambassadors around the world.
This creates for outstanding feedback in order to create the best product possible. What sets Yeti bike frames apart from most other bike manufacturers is they build bikes that they want to ride. Both frame options come with multiple build kit options making it even easier to customize your Yeti with the build kit you are looking for. Another update across the board for the Yeti lineup is updated graphics. One thing is for sure, these bikes are some of the best looking around.
Yeti went back to the drawing board and crafted up a new design for their SB5 and SB5 Beti and will feature a sleek new frame design, internal cable routing, and boost spacing for Both bikes are designed around the patented Switch Infinity Technology linkage system and have a much cleaner look this year. The triangle that split from the top tube into the seat tube is now gone and the bike takes on the clean lines that everyone has come to love on the SB4.
Both frames also feature a lower stand-over height, mm compared to mm on the previous model taken from size M frame and mm fork and slightly lower BB height mm down from mm. Crafted to tackle just about any trail, you can expect the new SB5 to be quick on climbs thanks to its efficient suspension platform and absolutely dominate descents.
With this frame being as great as it is, the bigger wheels will lend to its stability and traction and sheer dominance on the trail. Check out the photos below as well as the build kit specs for every frame:. Yeti continues to crush the enduro scene with their SB6. They moved from California to the mountain biking mecca of Durango and injected a healthy dose of inspiration into their high altitude welds. They forged a long-term relationship with Easton that resulted in the advancement of their aluminum tubing technology.
They were also carbon fiber pioneers -- their short lived, but storied C experiment and the Kaiser thermoplastic downhill bike are just history now, but the foundation was laid for a re-emergence of carbon fiber when the time was right.
As fate would have it, Yeti fell into tough times, and nearly went the way of the dinosaurs. A few of the employees bought the company at the last minute because they cared about the products and family they'd created.
They put their houses on the line to make it work, and then produced the bike we all needed -- the A natural convergence of Yeti's XC and DH racing lineage, it's no surprise it's their best selling bike to date. Their modern carbon fiber creations are fine examples of a material whose time has arrived.
Stiff, light and sexy as can be, still Yeti knows to build them tough enough to weather the rigors of real mountain biking. In light of their love affair with carbon fiber, some bikes are still better made of metal -- the DJ, AS-R 7, and R DH are still tig-welded from aluminum so you know they'll take a beating.
In fact, Yeti bikes are real-world tested three times -- at the factory, a 3rd party lab, and once again at Yeti headquarters to make sure they're durable enough to carry you through your next race, ride, or adventure. There's something very telling about the fact that the employees were so enamored with the bike brand, that they couldn't stand to see it fail. Nicknames like Bubba, Griz, Sugar, and Stretch remind us that the Yeti Crew is simply a family of like-minded guys and gals who love bikes, building each with attention paid to even the smallest of details.
Each derailleur hanger is imprinted with the Yetiman, our favorite furry bike icon. Their cable routing is so artfully done, with custom alloy cable clamps so tiny and well-placed, that you'll forget the bike is adorned with a mess of hoses and housing.
And when you buy a Yeti, rest assured you'll be riding a bike with a head badge of honor, and its distinctive turquoise accents will earn respect from those in the know. Sign In Invalid email or password. Please try again.

Custom Tallboy 4.More than anything this Yeti SB66 hammers home the fact that if you are driving a long travel trail bike it needs to be light.
Essentially this bike backs up the declarations. Still, you have to get the basics right, in this instance the bike has a good low standover, is super lightweight, has a good range of sizes and pretty much perfect angles. The power transfer is immediate, the steering precise, and you get a good response from the wheels via the suspension. Out of corner urgency, high—speed stability, the bike is a dream to ride.
It takes a fair chunk of cash to get a mm bike in under 30lb. This bike with pedals was Slap on a RockShox Reverb and bigger 2. It would be an awesome enduro race bike or for multi stage gravity events such as Trans Provence. The suspension system, although complex is reasonably easy to tune, for pick and place riding the Yeti SB66 responds instantaneously, something aided by the lightweight. Up front I was pleasantly surprised with a good performance Fox 34 not really needing any oil top up to give the fork more progression.
The rear travel only had a slight hint of weakness during successive and bigger hits and I felt at times it needed a smaller pocket in the stroke which to launch any trail adjustments off. On the parts list, well you have a fair old choice, but really the bike could also do with a clutch type mech to quieten the business down a touch, but it does come with some good carbon protection.
Cable routing is thorough. Note: For those of you sensitive to wheel size talk look away now: More than this, I was desperately trying to avoid wheel size talk.
So two questions: 1 when will Yeti launch bigger wheels on this already incredible bike, and 2 why would I buy a xB when there are currently no mud tyres available. This bike reminds me very much of the Specialized Enduro in terms of weights and measures. The Yeti SB66 is a shade shorter up front than the Spesh but otherwise pretty similar in its attacking mindset. This bike rides light in most situations and it enables you to change direction in an instant.
All that without even mentioning the smooth lines and beautiful colour balance of the frame! But it does need saying I guess, I mean this really has had some love…well proportioned, subtle, effortless on the eye. UK based Maxim Bikes are a new name, and one that we should definitely be keeping an eye on judging by this Leela The best of both worlds?
